The Nadar family are pioneers in India’s computing and IT industry. Shiv Nadar cofounded HCL Technologies in 1976. Today, HCL is one of India’s largest software services providers with an annual revenue of over $9.5 billion.

Shiv Nadar began his career in the Delhi Cloth & General Mills’ management trainee program where he met the colleagues who would later become his computer startup partners. Shiv originally established HCL as a computer hardware manufacturer operating out of a garage. His company would go on to offer India’s first indigenous personal computers.

HCL evolved into a software services company and is one of the few global IT companies founded in the 1970s that still exists today. Considered one of India’s leading philanthropists, Nadar’s Foundation supports education-related causes.

Shiv’s daughter, Roshni Nadar Malhotra, serves as executive director and CEO of HCL Corporation. She founded and is a trustee of The Habitats Trust, an organisation dedicated to conservationism. Her son, Shikhar Malhotra, is an HCL executive director.

The Nadar family’s estimated net worth is over $14 billion.
